Mask of the Sun

[Mask of the Sun]

Mask of the Sun was released in 1982 by Broderbund and is a text/graphic adventure. You and your partner Raoul are on a quest to find the cure for a disease that you are afflicted by. Supposedly the Mask of the Sun can cure you and the main objective of the game is to find it. Throughout the game you'll visit various pyramids and meet some deadly things along the way. I never have finished the game, but I have gotten to the maze near the end of the game but couldn't find the way out. I also could never figure out what to do with the 3 bowls, if anyone knows what I need to do with them please let me know.

Operation Wolf

[Operation
Wolf]

Operation Wolf is a pretty good arcade conversion of this classic game. The game isn't quite the same without the arcade guns, but using a joystick the game is very playable. Your objective is to shoot pretty much anything that moves, but don't shoot your allies like the medics and the civilians. You also have a limited supply of rockets that you can use to take out bigger targets like the helicopters. This copy of the game also has a trainer included to make the game easier.

Rock N Wrestle

[Rock N Wrestle]

Rock N Wrestle is my favorite wrestling game for the c64. Not only are the graphics good, the gameplay is also extremely good too. The opponents are very amusing, and very much like you'd find in pro wrestling on TV. You battle against various opponents such as a hillbilly and a punk-rock guy and attempt to defeat them using moves like pile drivers, suplexes, or jumping on top of them from the top turnbuckle.

BC's Quest For Tires

[BC's Quest For Tires]

BC's Quest For Tires is a fairly basic game in which you control BC the caveman and attempt to avoid various obstacles in your quest to find a mate. The two ways that you avoid things are by jumping over them or ducking under them. Once you've played the game a few times you'll find that its pretty easy, but still quite fun to play.

Archon

[Archon]

Archon is a game somewhat similar to battle chess, except that it has characters like unicorns, dragons, shapeshifters, and various other creatures. Each color also has a spellcaster that can cast spells like imprison or summon elemental. When you attempt to take an opponent's piece you must do battle with the foe. Every character has a different type of attack and some characters can move more spaces on the board than others. The goal of the game is to defeat all of your opponent's characters. This is a great game to play with a friend and one of my favorites.

Karateka

[Karateka]

Karateka is another of my favorite games for the c64. Your objective is to rescue Princess Mariko, who has been kidnapped by the Warlord Akuma and held captive in his fortress. You must do battle with many of Akuma's henchmen before you finally get to do battle with Akuma. Supposedly there are two different endings to the game, one in which you rescue the Princess after defeating Akuma. I've been able to successfully get this ending. The other ending is where you do battle with the Princess and become the next Akuma. I've never been able to do this and can't verify if this ending exists or not. If anyone has been able to do this I'd love to hear from you. Unfortunately the animation is very slow, so if you're using the C64s emulator I'd recommend cranking up the CPU speed to about 400%.

Arkanoid (NTSC Fixed)

[Arkanoid NTSC
Fixed]

Arkanoid is another one of my favorite games that I used to play alot at the video arcade. The game is fairly simple, the object is to break all the blocks on the screen. There have been countless clones of this game, and really this game is just a glorified version of Pong, but regardless its alot of fun to play. This version is NTSC fixed by ESI so it should work much much better on NTSC systems than all of the other versions of the game floating around.

Lifeforce

[Lifeforce]

Lifeforce is a great side-scrolling shootem-up game, and the c64 version is a very good conversion of the arcade title. This game was also released in Europe under the name Salamander, but the NTSC version is called Lifeforce. The game has alot in common with other shootem-up games, you collect powerups to increase your firepower and you must avoid the usual obstacles. It is a game definitely worth playing.
