Track & Field

[Track &
Field]

Track and Field was a game I used to play for hours and hours with my friends. I can't count the number of joysticks I broke playing this game. This game was very popular at the video arcade too, but instead of a joystick there were 2 buttons you had to hit repeatedly. There are all the usual track and field events such as the high jump, hammer throw, 100 meter dash, javelin throw, and long jump. See if you can find all the hidden "easter eggs".

G.I. Joe

[G.I.
Joe]

G.I. Joe was released by Epyx in 1985 and is a very fun game to play, especially with a friend. One person can be the Cobra members and the other can be the G.I. Joe members. There are 2 different battle modes in the game, which consist of one-on-one combat and a vehicle combat mode. There are also different terrains to do battle on, such as in the desert, in the arctic, in the city streets, and inside the Cobra base. Overall this game has great graphics and gameplay and is probably one of the best games that Epyx made.

Rack 'em

[Rack
'em]

Rack 'em was released by Accolade in 1988 and was probably the best pool game for the c64. It has a variety of games including snooker, eight ball, nine ball, straight pool, and you can also customize your own game. The game also has realistic features such as being able to put english on the ball, although it takes quite a bit of practice to get good at playing.

Road Runner

[Road
Runner]

Road Runner was released in 1988 and is a fun game in which you play as the roadrunner and try to avoid the coyote. The game is true to the cartoon in that the roadrunner can outrun the coyote, but the coyote has various ways of evening the score, such as using a skateboard, or a rocket to catch up to the roadrunner. While you're trying to avoid the coyote you must also gather bird seed to eat to regain strength. See how many times you can make the coyote get hit by the moving cars.

Tower Toppler

[Tower
Toppler]

Tower Toppler was released by Epyx in 1988 and is an interesting game. This game was also released with the name Nebulus in Europe so it may look familiar to you. The basic object of the game is to walk to the top of the tower while avoiding anything that moves. If something hits you, you get knocked off the ledge and fall down to a lower ledge. Watching the tower spin as you move is amazing, and it almost makes the game seem like a true 3d game. Overall its very fun, but very hard. Its a good thing this version has a built in trainer for unlimited lives and time.

Pogo Joe

[Pogo
Joe]

Pogo Joe is another very entertaining game to play. It is similar to Q-Bert except that there are a wide variety of boards to play. You have to hop on each circle while avoiding the enemies. Some of the enemies you can kill by hopping on them, others will kill you instead. Each enemy hatches from an egg and you can hop on the egg to kill it before it hatches. You can clear all of the enemies off the board by hopping on the green circles. The music adds a nice touch to the game too. This game doesn't seem to work correctly on C64s, but it works just fine on CCS64 and on my real c64.

Pirates!

[Pirates!]

Pirates! was released by Microprose and is a fun game about sailing the seas as a pirate. There should be a file on the first side with all of the codes needed to play the game.

Frogger 2

[Frogger 2]

Frogger 2 is a classic game that was released by Parker Brothers. In this version, instead of trying to cross a road filled with moving vehicles, there are 3 different terrains to cross. The first one involves swimming through the water to get to the logs on the other side of the screen. If you hop on the edge of the logs, instead of the middle, you go to the second terrain above water. From there you have to ride on alligators, ducks, hippos and various other creatures to make it to the life boat at the top of the screen. If you hop on the swan on this stage you go to the third terrain up in the clouds. From there you ride on different types of birds to finally make it to a spot in one of the clouds. This version of Frogger is very fun to play and definitely keeps me amused for hours at a time.

Double Dribble

[Double
Dribble]

Double Dribble was released by Konami in 1990 and is a fairly decent arcade conversion. The graphics are about average for a basketball game on the c64 and the gameplay is better than some of the other basketball games I've played. One interesting feature of this game is that when you go in for a slam dunk, the camera will cut to a closeup on the player as he tries to do one of the various dunks like a 360 or backwards dunk. If you like basketball games for the c64, this one should keep you entertained for a little while.
