Midnight Resistance
Midnight Resistance is another one of the typical side scrolling, shootem up
games. The style of the game is the same as other games such as Contra, but
at the end of each level you have the opportunity to obtain better weapons.
You have to collect keys throughout the level, and with the keys you can open
a locked case containing a weapon at the end of the level. This game is also
PAL/NTSC fixed so it should run correctly on both systems.

Arkanoid 2 - Revenge of Doh
![[Arkanoid

Arkanoid 2 is another breakout style game with some added features. Like the original
Arkanoid game you can get powerups throughout each level as you destroy the blocks.
Some of the powerups include slowing down the speed of the ball, lasers to break blocks,
and expanding the paddle. This copy of the game is the version released in the USA by
Taito so it works great on NTSC systems, but I haven't tried it on PAL systems.

Ironman Offroad
![[Ironman

Ironman Offroad is a great conversion from the Offroad game you have probably played at a
video arcade. The graphics are fairly good, and the gameplay is the same, although
without the steering wheel it doesn't quite feel the same as the arcade. The object, as
in every racing game, is to beat the other cars to the finish line. The better you do,
the more money you will win. You can powerup your car with your earnings by buying
better tires or a faster engine.

Pac-Land
![[Pac-Land]](images/pacland.gif)
Pac-land was released for the c64 in Europe around 1988 and is one of my favorite
side scrolling games. This game has gameplay similar to other side scrolling games
like Super Mario Bros and is fun to play for awhile, although I seem to remember it
being more fun to play at the video arcade, but overall its not a bad arcade
conversion. It also has an unlimited lives and time trainer included to make the
game easier.

The Heist
![[The
Heist]](images/heist.gif)
The Heist is a fairly simple, but very fun game. The objective is to make your way
around a building of some sort, probably a museum, and steal all of the paintings that
can be found. There are obstacles though like locked doors, burglar alarms, and robots
that you have to avoid. Although the game isn't complicated, it kept me entertained for
hours.

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
![[Zak
McKracken]](images/zak.gif)
Zak McKracken is another game released by Lucasfilms that uses the same game interface
used in Maniac Mansion. Zak works for a tabloid in the game and is sent to investigate a
two-headed squirrel that has been seen near Seattle, but the main plot of the game is to
save the world from a stupidity machine. The game is also similar to Maniac Mansion in
that you have to use a combination of different people to solve the game. If you liked
Maniac Mansion then you will probably like Zak McKracken as well. There is currently a group working on
a sequel to Zak McKracken, click here for more
information.

Deceptor
![[Deceptor]](images/deceptor.gif)
Deceptor was released by Avantage in 1986 and is a game in which you can transform from
a car, into a plane, or back into a person at the end of the level. The main object is
to get to the end of each level while gathering ammo along the way. My description of
this game doesn't even begin to describe how fun this game is so I'd give it a try if you
haven't played it before.

Mr Do's Castle
![[Mr Do's
Castle]](images/mrdocast.gif)
Mr Do's Castle is a pretty simple game where the main objective is to kill the
enemies. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this, such as smashing
them with a hammer or slamming a brick on top of them. By hitting all
three of the keys you will unlock the door at the top where you can get a
shield that makes you invincible for a short period of time. Even though
the graphics aren't the greatest, it's still a very fun game to play. You
might have also played this game at the video arcade where it was called
"Mr. Do vs The Unicorns".

Slamball
![[Slamball]](images/slamball.gif)
Slamball is probably my favorite c64 pinball game. The graphics are decent and
the pinball is a smiley face. The pinball table is bigger than the screen and it
is constantly scrolling up and down as the smiley face is bounced around. When
you lose the face at the bottom of the screen it gets crushed. Overall this is a
very fun game and I highly recommend it.
